Sixty severely neglected dogs were rescued from a breeding facility in Hartenbos.
The Garden Route SPCA says they responded to a complaint regarding the facility last week where inspectors discovered 60 starving Boerboels.
Senior Inspector Cheri Cooke says the dogs were confined in small electric-fenced enclosures with no bedding and some had insufficient shelter.
She says the SPCA removed all the animals.
The dogs who showed any chance of survival have been placed in quarantine kennels where they are receiving veterinary attention.
Cooke says their teams are busy processing the evidence in order to bring about a successful prosecution.
