Need a clearance certificate from SAPS? The process has changed


SAPS Management has effected changes in the process of how a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is obtained. This with a view to curbing the potential for identity fraud.  

What is a PCC?

It is a document issued by the Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management stating whether or not any criminal offence have been recorded against the person. It's a document which provides confirmation of a persons criminal status.

When and how will the effects take place?

Members of the public are no longer expected to deliver their documentation to the Criminal Record Centre in Pretoria as was previously the practice. It is now the sole responsibility of the police to compile and deliver the form on behalf of the applicant.  

How much will this cost me?

  • R114,00 per application
  • Tariff is payable in cash at the nearest police station
  • Bank-guaranteed cheque

What is needed from applicant?

  • Proof of payment must be attached to the application
  • Fill out the application form
  • Give a full set of fingerprints
  • Copy of ID/Passport to be certified
  • Statement of previous convictions

Getting clearance:

The applicant will get SMS acknowledging receipt of the application and reference number will be provided.

Follow up SMS will be sent upon completion
