The annual national Science Festival kicks off in Grahamstown on Wednesday and runs through to next Tuesday.
The 2015 theme is .. Science Alight .. and forms part of the 2015 International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies.
Organisors say the festival programme offers visitors exhibitions and over 600 interactive events that will explore all facets of light.
And, according to Festival media officer, Steven Lang, the highlight of the Festival will be the presence of a high-level delegation from Nasa.
"It includes the chief scientist and other high profile scientists responsible for designing 'Mars Curiosity Rover'. One of them is a former astronaut who spent a lot of time on the International Space station" he said
Science and Technology Minister, Naledi Pandor, will address the Festival on Friday.
Last year 68 000 people attended the Science Festival.
