Police in Gqeberha released the names of three people who were killed in a three-car collision in Central on Sunday.

Spokesperson, Captain Sanda Janse Van Rensburg, said they were 19-year-old Sedzani Booi, 20-year-old Ntsakiso Maluleke, and 21-year-old Itani Manavhela.

In an earlier statement, she said it was alleged that the driver of a Ford Ranger failed to stop at a red traffic light at the corners of Cape Road and Albany Road, before colliding into a white Honda Ballade after 10:00 PM.

She said the deceased were in a white VW Polo that was behind the Honda when the accident occurred.

Two occupants from the Honda and the driver of the bakkie were taken to St Georges Hospital for medical assistance.

According to Nelson Mandela University's Nursing Science Facebook page, at least one of the deceased, Sedzani Booi was a nursing student at the institution.
