The Buffalo City Municipality has welcomed the arrest this weekend of seven suspects alleged to be part of a cable theft syndicate in the Metro.
Spokesperson, Samkelo Ngwenya, says police and Red Alert Private Security acted swiftly when investigating a cable theft case in Cambridge on Saturday.
He says they initially arrested three suspects and later uncovering a cable theft working station.
Ngwenya says a follow-up investigation led to more arrests being made and the seizure of municipal copper cables, bolt cutters, grinders, hammers as well as bakkie.
According to Red Alert Electronic Security, narcotics, license plates, a SAPS siren, stolen car keys, suspected stolen radios and various weapons including an air gun and knives were confiscated.
The suspects are due to appear in court soon.
The Municipality is losing millions of rands annually to cable theft and illegal electricity connections damaging infrastructure which in turn has an impact on water and sewage pump stations,
