The names of the five occupants of a bakkie who died in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a bakkie on the R102 Airport road in George on Friday afternoon have been released.
They were Willie Juries, Allister Muller, Delmor Treurnich, Pierre Heunis who is believed to be the driver of the bakkie and Ruan Smith.
They were all from Great Brak River.
The two other passengers of the bakkie survived and were transported to the George hospital, one in a critical condition and the other seriously injured.
Police says the seriously injured, Jason Mapella was released from hospital yesterday whilst the critically injured Ronelle Heunis is still in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver of the bus veered to the right to avoid hitting a bakkie that was exiting from the George municipal refuse site gravel road that joins the R102 as a T-junction.
Subsequently the bus hit the bakkie head on. The driver of the bus was not injured but was treated for shock.
A culpable homicide docket has been opened.
