Eastern Cape authorities said that the names of the five victims who died in an accident on the N6 between Queenstown and Jamestown on Friday morning will only be released after a formal identification by their families.
The five were killed when their Renault Cleo was involved in a collision with a vehicle with two occupants, who escaped unharmed.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, said on Sunday that their names are being withheld pending formal identification.
However, the names of three of the victims were made known on social media, including a tweet from Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mtethwa, who paid tribute to former YoTV presenter Akhumzi Jezile.
The other two well-known victims identified in other online reports were actor Thobani Mseleni who had a role in the movie, Inxeba (The Wound) and former Joyous Celebration singer Siyasanga Kobese.
The names of the other two victims have not yet been released.
