Mayor Ben Fihla has recommended that the Port Elizabeth Airport be renamed the Nelson Mandela Airport.
In a report to Council, which meets on Thursday, the Mayor points out that he raised the matter in his Opening Statement to Council on the 27th of February last year.
The other name submitted was that of one of the PEBCO THREE Sipho Hashe.
The Mayor says in his report that the renaming of the airport is considered seriously as its a gateway for tourists and business people into the city.
He added that the Metro is the only city named after the former president.
