Two court cases against the SA National Roads Agency Limited continued to delay the start of work on the construction of the N2 Wild Coast Highway.
SANRAL Project Engineer Marlize Nel-Verwey was briefing the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber on Tuesday on projects in the Eastern Cape.
She said while the official cost of the project remained between R9- 10 billion, it was now more likely to be around R12 billion.
Nel-Verwey said that once the court challenges had been resolved, work on the major bridges at Mtentu and Msikaba, will commence at a cost of around R2-billion.
She said while the final funding model for the N-2 Wild Coast road had not yet been finalised, it will be a public-private-partnership arrangement that will see the road being tolled.
Nel-Verwey said the work on the N-2 between Colchester and Nanaga that started in March, will be completed in February next year.
