The Executive Mayor of Knysna, Mark Willemse has issued a stern warning to community members who barricaded the N2 to the east of the town as part of a protest on Thursday evening.
The group of protesters closed the road following failed engagements with the municipality regarding the installation of water metres on their properties.
It is alleged that the protesters also threatened two Knysna councillors and told them they'd burn down their homes.
Willemse said police are investigating the threats levelled the councillors and have promised Council that they will bring the full force of the law down on the perpetrators.
Mayor Willemse said he will not allow anarchy to reign on his watch.
Adding that for them to have taken it upon themselves to close the N2 is absolute lawlessness and that he does not support their endeavours.
Willemse said Knysna is a tourist town, and the greater Knysna economy relies heavily on the income brought in by our tourists.
"Blocking the N2 preventing the flow of traffic will ultimately result in tourists choosing not only another route but also another destination."
