The SA National Roads Agency says the N-2 bypass between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth will be open to traffic from 10 am on Friday, 30 November.
"The bypass effectively restores the link between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth and will allow motorists to make use of the N2."
"In October, heavy rains caused extensive damage to a section of the highway leading to the collapse of a portion of the road, about 20kms south of from Grahamstown."
"Motorists are requested to reduce their driving speeds to 40km/h over the 600m bypass because of the curvature of the road. There will be no stop/go signs. The bypass will be operational to July 2013 when reconstruction of the slip will be completed."
"Although the bypass is open to all traffic, SANRAL still recommends that interlink trucks use the R72 when traveling between Port Elizabeth and East London."
Concor Roads and Earthworks are currently repairing the damaged section of the N2. It is expected to take around eight months to complete and fully restore the highway for normal use.
