The ANC's Eastern Cape provincial nominations conference got underway at Fort Hare University's campus in Alice on Thursday.
The ANC says the first day of the provincial nominations conference will see delegates nominate candidates for positions of President, Deputy President and other three top party positions.
The conference concludes on Friday when the ANC in the Eastern Cape will announce its preferred candidates ahead of the party's elective conference in Managaung next month.
The ANC Provincial Executive Committee has already announcd its backing of president Jacob Zuma for another term of office and this was supported by the Women's League in the province.
Some areas however are divided with the OR Tambo region, the second largest ANC region, backing deputy president Kgalame Motlanthe for the top spot.
