Minister launches 16 days campaign

The Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Lulu Xingwana, says while police statis show a decline in rape cases, more still needs to be done.

Speaking at the launch of the 16 days of activism against women and child abuse in Bhisho today, the minister said violence againstg women and children still remain unacceptably high, in spite of a 3.7% decline in sexual offences and 1.9% drop in cases of rape.

Xingwana also says the introduction of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has contributed positively to the fight against this scourge.

She says the 16 days of activism campaign has resulted in the growth in public awareness and more people reporting abuse cases.
