Mystery surrounds the shooting death of 33-year old taxi driver Ralton van Rooyen, who caused the death of 6 children in 2007.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says he was shot in the head in Bethelsdorp on Saturday, and died at the scene.
He says a 20-year old man who was with him, was shot in the arm, and admitted to hospital.
Labans says the motive for the attack is still unclear and it is not known if the incident was gang-related.
Van Rooyen was jailed for the high-speed accident in which the 6 learners died, after cramming 22 of them into his taxi
Labans says no arrests have yet been made.
Labans said police were concerned over the fact that 10 gang-related incidents were reported in the city's northern areas since the beginning of the month until Saturday.
