Eastern Cape police say that the suspect who appeared in court on Friday in connection with the murder of teacher, Jayde Panayiotou, had been in custody at St Albans prison on another murder charge.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, said 28-year-old Sinethembe Nenembe, was in custody for the murder of 72-year-old Denise Webber in August in Algoa Park.
She said detectives had uncovered evidence that positively linked him to the Panayiotou murder.
Mills said Nenembe faces charges of murder and kidnapping.
This relates to his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Jayde Panayioutou in April this year in Port Elizabeth.
He will appear in court again on the 2 December with his co-accused in the case, 28-year-old Christopher Panayiotou and alleged hitman, Sizwezakhe Vumazonke.
The state has already dropped charges against alleged middleman, Thando Siyoni, who has turned state's witness.
