A man in his 20's has been beaten to death in a revenge attack in the Jo Slovo settlement in Port Elizabeth.
Police captain Andre Beetge says the drama began when a 17 year-old girl went missing on Sunday morning.
At lunch time, members of the community heard the sounds of a woman screaming for help in nearby bushes.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the suspect standing near the lifeless body of the girl.
Beetge says the community members caught the young man and beat him to death.
An autopsy will be performed on the girl to determine the cause of death and if she had been sexually assaulted.
And in a separate incident in Jo Slovo on Sunday night, 42 year-old Sidwell Gwicana was stabbed to death with a broken piece of a glass bottle following an argument with a friend.
They had been drinking at a local sheebeen.
Beetge says the suspect fled and went to hide in his shack.
However, members of the community gave chase and set his shack alight.
The man's clothing caught alight in the ensuing fire and he was also badly beaten up by local residents.
He sustained serious burn wounds and is in a bad way in hospital.
Captain Beetge again appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands but to let justice take its course.
