An NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew was activated in the early hours of Monday morning following a request for urgent medical assistance from the Chokka fishing boat Gambit reporting a 51 year old local crewman on-board suffering an asthma attack.
NSRI Port Elizabeth Station commander Ian Gray says they rendesvoused with the fishing vessel 4 nautical miles West of Cape Recife.
Sadly, the paramedic declared the fisherman deceased, and arrangements have been made by the owner of the fishing vessel for the body to be handed over to the family.
The Chokka boat sustained mechanical failure during the voyage towards Port Elizabeth and the owners arranged for it to be towed to Port for repairs.
