Multi-million rand library for East London

A multi-million rand library is on the cards for East London in a joint project by three higher education institutions.

The University of Fort Hare, Walter Sisulu University and the University of South Africa will join hands to build the R200 million library in Oxford street.

Fort Hare's Zintle Filtane says the university is contributing R20 million to the project.

Filtane says the library will cater for 18 000 students ensuring access to e-resources, a multi-media center, reading and study material.

Walter Sisulu will contribute R30 million and Unisa R50 million.

The department of higher education and training will contribute R120 million rand.

Construction of the project is expected to start in November.
