MTR Smith children's home removes troubled fire-starter

The 10-year-old boy who deliberately set fire to the garage complex at the MTR Smit Children's home in Port Elizabeth on Sunday is to be sent to a place of safety.

The boy was identified on CCV footage dousing the garage in petrol before it went up in flames.

MTR Smit Director, Dr Crystal Watson, said they hoped to have the boy placed in a facility where he can receive specialised treatment by the end of the week.

"His circumstances are really sad, sometimes our children act out of anger or because it is just part of their behavioural pattern, unfortunately some of the children's issues are so bad that we dont have the structure to deal with them" Watson said.

Watson said damage estimates were in the region of R100 000 but that it could have been far worse
