East London police arrest suspects after shoot-out

East London police have arrested five suspects following a wild shoot out in Oxford street.

Police captain Steven Marais says they were alerted to a suspicious looking vehicle and arrived in the area at about 11 o'clock on Monday night.

Marais says the suspects jumped out of their car and started firing at the flying squad members.

He says the police fired a warning shot but that the suspects continued shooting at them.

Police then returned fire, shooting a man in the leg. He was arrested along with four others.

Marais say police recovered cash, clothing and house hold goods believed to have been stolen, as well as a pistol and a toy gun.

The suspects will appear in court soon.
