Low-cost airline Mango has announced that it will introduce daily return flights between Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth as well as Cape Town and Port Elizabeth from the 5th of December.
Mango will operate one return flight daily between the respective cities using leased-in aircraft until early next year, when Mango expects to add additional capacity to its own fleet.
Tickets sales for flights to and from Port Elizabeth will be available online and on the airline's other sales outlets from 10AM.
The only other low-cost airline currently serving Port Elizabeth, is kulula.com.
Mango spokesperson Hein Kayser says the recent demise of 1Time had prompted them to bring their plans forward, to include PE on its route network.
"We have decided to bring our plans forward in terms of operating via Jhb and PE and Cape Town and PE route, and it has something to do in effect with the exit of capacity on the route, however the Eastern Cape has always been on our radar" Kayser said.
Mango's first flight between Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth will depart on 5 December with bookings available from Tuesday 20 November across all its channels with an inaugural fare of R 599 between Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth and R 699 between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, available on selected flights. Edgars and Jet account cards will also be accepted online and through the airline's call centre for this route.
1Time suspended all its flights on the 2nd of November, while there is talk in the aviation fraternity of another low-cost airline, SkyWise, entering the marketplace next year.
