A policeman from Mthatha has been arrested on charges of possessing illegal fire-arms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Mzukisi Fatyela, says the 50-year-old sergeant was arrested at his home in Northcrest in Mthatha.
He says police seized a point 303 rifle, a shotgun and a 7.65mm pistol and dozens of rounds of ammunition. He says the serial numbers on some of the weapons had been filed off.
Fatyela says the policeman was suspended last year on similar weapons charges.
He says its alleged that the policeman had been running a private security company on the side.
