Mthatha police are investigating the deaths of two children who apparently died from smoke inhalation.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Dineo Koena, says an inquest docket and a case of arson is under investigation.
She says two children, aged five and eight, were locked inside a flat in Fort Gale, Mthatha, on Tuesday night.
She says apparently there was no electricity in the area and the children's father lit a candle before he left them overnight.
Koena says when he returned in the early hours of Wednesday morning the children were dead.
