Police in Embalenhle near Secunda in Mpumalanga are investigating the deaths of two siblings who died after allegedly eating noodles for breakfast.

The siblings, aged 9 and 13, both died last week.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Busisiwe Mthethwa says police are awaiting the post mortem results to determine the cause of death.

The deaths of the two siblings follow hot on the heels of three siblings who passed away in Gqeberha earlier this month.

Four-month-old Athenkosi Ngwendu, seven-year-old Olwam Ngwendu, and 11-year-old Sinothando Ngwendu died at the weekend, shortly after eating the noodles and complaining of stomach cramps and nausea.

The children accompanied their grandparents on a visit to relatives in New Brighton where a packet of noodles was bought.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says they have sent a toxicology report to a lab in Cape Town and are awaiting the results before a cause of death can be confirmed.
