Police at Swartkops, Nelson Mandela Bay, are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal accident in which an unidentified man died in an accident at the Monument Crossing on the Addo Road.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg say that approximately 06h30 on Monday, a police vehicle from Kwazakele was travelling on the Uitenhage road towards the Addo road.
At the crossing, the police sergeant turned right and collided with a silver Tata Indica motor vehicle.
The driver of the Indica was alone at the time of the accident and passed away on the scene.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says his name will be released once he is identified and his next of kin informed.
The police Sergeant was on duty and also alone at the time of the accident - he was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Anyone who is able to assist in identifying the deceased is asked to contact Swartkops police station detectives.
