A man who was arrested by the Hawks for allegedly trying to defraud the Road Accident Fund for a motorcycle accident in 2017 will be back in court in Gqeberha on Friday.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said 46-year-old Bantu Hoho was arrested by the Serious Corruption Investigation team of the Hawks on Tuesday.
He appeared in court on the same day and was released on warning.
She said it is alleged that Hoho reported a hit-and-run accident that allegedly occurred on 5 February in which he claimed to have been hit by a car while riding his motorcycle.
Captain Mgolodela said a claim of R1.3 million was instituted but before payment was made an investigation had established that no other vehicle was involved in the accident besides the motorcycle.
“A case of fraud was reported to the Hawks for criminal investigation, hence Hoho’s arrest,” she said.
