A 37-year-old man has been convicted in the Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of fraud and money laundering.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said Bathandwa Matikinca, was found guilty on Wednesday.
She said Matikinca was an Administrative and Learner Support Officer at the CDC where he was found to have substituted the banking details of people on learnership programmes on the Corporation’s payroll system used to process their stipends, with his own details.
Mgolodela said this money was paid into various bank accounts held in his name, with some money also paid into the bank account of his wife.
She said these crimes took place between March 2013 and February 2021.
Mgolodela said CDC was “prejudiced” in the amount of R6.6 million.
Matikinca will be sentenced on 9 May.
