A mother and her two daughters have been shot dead in their home at Ezingqolweni locality in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the tragedy happened on Tuesday when the trio were busy brewing sorghum beer for an upcoming circumcision ceremony.
He says the 42-year-old mother lived in Hermanus but travelled to the Eastern Cape for her son's ceremony.
It is alleged that her mother-in-law, who was sleeping in a different rondavel, heard gunshots and escaped when it became quiet.
Brigadier Kinana says on Wednesday their bodies were discovered lying in a pool of blood.
The victims were all shot in the upper body.
No arrests have been made.
The victim's two deceased daughters were aged 16 and 12.
