A Nurse from Port Elizabeth was awarded the title of South Africa's most caring nurse for 2019 after going beyond the call of duty for two patients earlier this year.
Salome Siebritz who works at Cuyler Clinic in Uitenhage made national headlines in April this year when she voluntarily drove two patients from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town for a kidney transplant.
At the time there was no other transportation available for the patients and Siebritz hit the road to Cape Town shortly after her 8-hour shift.
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) congratulated Siebritz and encouraged nurses to identify their colleagues who do such selfless work as many of them go unnoticed.
Siebritz received her award at a special gala dinner in Pretoria on Monday night.
