Residents at Pinnacle Point in Mossel Bay, and the town's residents at large, are still reeling in shock following Saturday's murder and attempted murder at the internationally recognised golf estate.
The body of 79-year-old Margaretha Willemse was found seated on a chair in her bedroom with a wound to the neck while her 87-year-old husband Johannes survived after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
It was Johannes who went to the neighbours on Saturday morning to raise the alarm.
The family's attorney Llewelyn Curlewis, who has known the couple for 30-years, said that Johannes suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Willemse was a successful farmer in KwaZulu Natal up until two years ago.
Curlewis says the couple has three children, two of whom travelled to Mossel Bay after hearing the news.
Their one daughter is currently in Dubai celebrating her honeymoon.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the motive for the murder is unknown but every possible scenario is being investigated and robbery cannot be ruled out.
Pinnacle Point Estate is known for its state-of-the-art 24-hour security and supplied all camera footage to police to assist in the investigation.
They said in a brief statement that there was no breach in security.
