A 26-year-old man was sentenced to an effective 10-years imprisonment in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on Thursday for raping a woman five years ago.
In December 2016, the victim, who was then 31-years-old, was walking to her house in Mossel Bay when the accused grabbed her and threw her over a fence of a house that was still under construction.
He raped her inside the house before fleeing the scene.
It took police five years to help bring justice to the victim due to a delay in the DNA test results.
The suspect pleaded not guilty on the charge but his DNA positively linked him to the crime.
