Two police officers who attended to a domestic violence complaint in Mossel Bay suffered serious injuries when they were assaulted with a spade.
Police said the officers arrived at the complainants' place at 3 AM to discover that the suspect had already fled the scene.
A spokesperson, said while returning to the station they were summoned by a person carrying a spade.
After a brief conversation, the 37-year-old man attacked the officers from behind with a spade.
He was arrested and is due to appear in court soon.
