A man involved in a near ten-hour stand-off with police on a property outside Mossel Bay on Sunday is finally behind bars.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said that the 39-year-old man was overpowered by members of a police task team at about 18h30 on Sunday evening.
He said the man will face charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property, adding that he could still face further charges as the investigation continues.
Pojie said the drama unfolded on Sunday morning when the man held his parents and brother “hostage” in their home on a property outside Mossel Bay.
He said the man also fired several shots at police and emergency services personnel, damaging police vehicles and an ambulance.
Pojie said the man let his parents and brother go during the course of Sunday morning, but then continued to barricade himself inside the house with access to several firearms.
He said the man was eventually overpowered outside the house by members of a task team after police negotiators were unable to get him to surrender.
Pojie said that the motive behind his actions is still not known and that he will appear in court this week.
