A Mossel Bay policeman has allegedly shot and wounded four people before turning his gun on himself.
Police spokesperson, captain Malcolm Pojie, says sergeant Annesh Bootrom reported for duty at the Kwanonqaba police station on Sunday night and shortly after the parade left for the home of his girlfriend, constable Evelyn Pienaar, in Da Gamaskop.
Pojie says there was an argument and its alleged that Bootram opened fire, wounding Pienaar, her mother, their six year old daughter and a visiting friend.
"Further investigation reveals that the 36-year-old Sergeant walked down the corridor of the flat, turned the firearm on himself and pulled the trigger. He sustained one fatal wound to the head and died on the scene," Pojie said.
Pojie says "the four injured females were transported to the Bay View Hospital for treatment where an emergency operation had to be conducted on Constable Evelyn Pienaar as she sustained several bullet wounds to her body and legs."
He says "it is believed that the child as well as the other two females are in a stable condition. Constable Pienaar's condition is still regarded as very serious and is being monitored."
Police have opened an inquest docket as well as four cases of attempted murder.
