Three still missing in EC floods

The police, dog unit and search rescue teams are currently searching for 3 people missing in Eastern Cape flood waters.

Police captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a 40 year old man is missing after getting into difficulty on the Witrivier at Kirkwood.

Police are also searching for a 14 year-old boy who was swept away in floodwaters at Kwanobuhle at Uitenhage.

Janse van Rensburg says a woman is missing at Kleinskool after residents reported seeing her falling into flood waters.

Earlier this morning, Police disaster management spokesperson, captain John Fobian, put the Eastern Cape flood death toll at eleven.

Meanwhile relief efforts to assist flood victims are continuing at centres across the Eastern Cape and in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

The Joint Operation Centre is on high alert and is monitoring the situation.

More rain is forecast for Monday morning and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Metro Acting Communications Director Marthie Nel says the main challenge currently is a shortage of foodstuffs and blankets for flood victims.

The Municipality is making an urgent appeal to residents to assist in this regard.
