Southern Cape police have opened an inquest docket after three children died in Mossel Bay.
Police spokesperson, captain Malcolm Pojie, says it appears that two boys, three-year-old Kwanele Kiewiets, six year old Zanoxolo and their 13-year-old sister, Wendy had been overcome by the fumes of a coal fire which was lit to shield them against the cold.
He says the children's 27 year old mother, Phumla, made the tragic discovery shortly on Thursday morning.
Pojie says the incident happened in Kwanonqaba township.
A post mortem will be held to determine the exact cause of death.
