More than 2 000 firearms destroyed in PE

A total of 2065 firearms were destroyed in Port Elizabeth over the weekend.

Police spokesperson, Lt-Col Sibongile Soci says at least 848 of these have been voluntarily surrendered.

The other 1,217 were confiscated by the state and had been used in criminal activities.

The firearms included rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Nearly 40,000 firearms have been destroyed by police in the province since 2004.
