The ANC's chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Bay region in the Eastern Cape, Nceba Faku has resigned from the organisation.
The party's regional secretary, Zandisile Qupe says he has received a text message from Faku in which he detailed reasons for his resignation.
He says Faku's resignation came as a surprise.
Qupe says Faku indicated in the sms that he was resigning in order to take fulltime care of his business.
Faku, a former mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro, was re-elected chairperson of the Nelson Mandela region in April last year. He was challenged by the city's executive mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile.
