The Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will be holding public hearings this week on proposed name changes that will affect Cradock, in the Chris Hani District.

The Department is considering a proposal that Cradock's name be changed to Inxuba Kaladokhwe and part of the N2 around the town, after the late philanthropist, Advocate Mthetheleli Ngumbela.

Department spokesperson, Andile Nduna, says the public hearings in the Amathole and Chris Hani Districts will take place from this Thursday, and run through to next Wednesday the 25th of May.

He says the SA Geographical Names Council will also verify the process before it's gazetted for public comment.

Some other name changes on the cards to be discussed at hearings:

Mooiplaas - Kwenxurha

Kei Bridge - Nciba

Morgans Bay - Gxarha

Kei Mouth - Icwili

Komga Hospital - Ruth Hans hospital
