One man was killed and six injured following a shooting incident at the Mdantsane Highway taxi rank in Mdantsane on Tuesday.
Police have now launched a manhunt for two unknown suspects who started shooting at a white Hyundai sedan with two occupants.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says a 47-year-old person in the car died while another sustained wounds to the upper body.
Five other people, aged between 25 and 30 were hit by stray bullets and rushed to hospital.
Brigadier Kinana said they would not speculate on the motive of the incident.
The EC Transport and Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe, however, said the victim was a taxi boss.
She has had some engagements with taxi bosses earlier this year to try to bring an end to these hits.
The name of the deceased was not released to the media.
A case of murder and six of attempted murder are under investigation.
