Eastern Cape Health MEC, Sindiswa Gomba, has welcomed another group of Cuban doctors to the province.
Ten more from the so-called “Cuban brigade” arrived in the province on Sunday to reinforce the Provincial Health Department’s capacity to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
The new cohort consists of three epidemiologists, four medical officers, as well as a senior nurse, health technologists, and information manager.
In May another 20 Cuban health professionals, including doctors, arrived in the province and were dispatched to various districts.
South Africa has a long-standing arrangement with Cuba in terms of the SA-Cuban Medical Collaboration Programme established in 1996 which has seen hundreds of South African students receiving medical training in Cuba.
