The Democratic Alliance in Nelson Mandela Bay has laid criminal charges against Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani.
This relates to Bobani's claim of an alleged security breach at City Hall in February.
The Mayor alleged that a man who came to see him about a housing issue had warned him that he was carrying a gun.
But, the man in question, Danisile Ngobo, refuted the mayor's allegation and also concluded an affidavit to this effect.
Speaking at a media briefing arranged by the DA on Monday morning, the former SANDF member confirmed that he had met with mayor Bobani after his house had burnt down, but he denies threatening him with a gun.
Ngobo says he has nothing against Bobani but that the Mayor made a laughing stock about his plea and accused him of having a gun which he did not.
Meanwhile, the DA's Athol Trollip says they will lay defamation charges against the Mayor at the Humewood Police Station.
He says it appears that the Metro police did nothing on this matter and charges will be laid of defamation and misrepresentation for accusing Ngobo of a criminal act.
Mayor Bobani says he won't comment on the incident as it is still under investigation.
The mayor's spokesperson, George Geleba says the Metro's security leg is in charge of the internal investigation.
This is the second time in less than a month that Trollip has laid charges against Bobani.
