Twenty-nine more people have been arrested in Bramfischerville and Snake Park in Soweto in connection with the looting and violence which began earlier this week.
Gauteng police said this brings the number of people arrested to 68.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, said those arrested on Wednesday night followed the looting of shops owned by foreign nationals in both areas.
Makubela also said that three Somali nationals were arrested for being in possession of three unlicensed firearms after shooting at looters.
The violence was sparked by the shooting of a teenager who tried to rob a shop belonging to a foreign national.
