Mom arrested for leaving baby in river

A young mother from Mdantsane is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of child abandonment.

The 23-year-old woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly leaving her baby girl in the river stream in NU2.

Police Spokesperson Captain Nkosikho Mzuku said the Family Violence and Sexual Offence Unit took over the investigation.

He said the little girl is currently in a local hospital and is doing very well.
