Mother and daughter Christine and Chantell Roussouw have received lengthy jail sentences in the Port Elizabeth High Court for the murder of an electrician.

The 58-year-old Christine Russouw was sentenced to 15-years imprisonment on Wednesday and her 38-year-old daughter Chantell received a 20-year jail term for the murder of Peter Hendrik Scholtz.

Scholtz was bludgeoned to death in the family’s Kabega Park home in July of 2018 by 34-year-old Wayne Albert Russouw and his 27-year-old friend Ronald Swartz, before they stuffed his body in a freezer.

His badly beaten body was later found by a passerby in bushes next to a gravel road in Fairview with his hands and feet tied and cling-wrap around his head.

They also stole his cash and sold his bakkie which was the motive for the murder.

Wayne, Christine and Chantell Roussouw were arrested at their home on the evening of 20 July 2018.

In December 2020, Wayne Roussouw was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder while Swartz was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.

In handing down the sentence on Wednesday, Judge Elna Revelas ruled that Christine and Chantell had lied throughout the trial and that their story became more and more ridiculous as the trial progressed.
