A Mdantsane couple appeared in the Magistrates Court on Friday, after the body of their 5-year-old daughter was found near their home on Wednesday.
The couple has been identified as 27-year-old Nosikhumbuzo Mabusela and her boyfriend who is the stepfather to the deceased, 31-year-old Siphelo Melfin.On Wednesday, police dug up the body in a shallow grave in the garden at the couple's family home in Postdam.
It is alleged that the decomposed body was buried more than a month ago.
Mabusela told the court that Melfin assaulted the deceased with a stick leading to her death on 8 June.
They are facing a charge of murder and Magistrate Joel Cesar postponed the case for the 18th of this month for the accused to apply for legal aid.Both the accused will remain in custody.
