Miracle kidney donation for PE woman

A Port Elizabeth woman is due to be discharged from the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in Cape Town on Friday after a lifesaving kidney transplant from a living donor who came all the way from Australia to donate her kidney.

59 year-old Felicity Zieseniss received a kidney last week from long-time friend and former Port Elizabethan, 54 year-old Kathy Ward (nee McGillivray) who now lives with her husband and children in Coffs Harbour South of Brisbane.

Looking remarkably fit  and in high spirits, Ward flew back into Port Elizabeth on Thursday to continue her recovery before she returns to Australia.

Wards says that in a strange twist of fate, she returned to Port Elizabeth ten months ago to have dental surgery after crashing her bike while doing ironman training.

It was only then that she discovered that her good friend was in desperate need of a kidney transplant.

Ward told AlgoaFM News that she knew she was answering God's calling in donating her kidney and that it had been an amazing experience.

She encouraged anyone who was considering donating a kidney to take that next vital step and put their name on the donor list.
