The George Mayor, Charles Standers is on leave until the 11th of February after a case of assault was opened by his wife, Estie on Monday.
Conville Police are investigating a case of domestic violence after an alleged incident took place at the couple's home in Lavalia on Monday night.
It is alleged that the politician assaulted his wife in front of their six year old daughter.
In the meantime Standers has until Thursday afternoon to explain to the DA party why he should not be suspended from all party political activities.
If suspended, Standers will continue his mayoral duties but will be banned from DA caucus meetings.
Chief whip, Flip de Swardt told Algoa FM News that the federal legal commission is investigating the matter and that deputy mayor Daniel Maritz will be acting mayor until the 11th of February.
The police investigation continues.
