The minimum wage for farmworkers and rural safety will be two of the key topics for discussion at the annual congress of Agri Eastern Cape taking place in Port Elizabeth from Wednesday.
In his annual report, Agri Eastern Cape president, Ernest Pringle, says the present state of agriculture in South Africa will also be keenly debated.
He also called for organised agriculture to increase political influence, adding that while transformation in the sector is necessary its also vital to forge new alliances.
Pringle says that's why this past year saw the official launch of the Eastern Cape Agricultural Confederation, an umbrella body for all organised agriculture in the province.
He says emerging commercial farmers will also be welcomed into the existing structures of Agri Eastern Cape.
The Agri Eastern Cape conference runs until Thursday.
