A total of R949.2m has been allocated to schools in the Eastern Cape through the National School Nutrition Programme for the 2013/14 financial year.
Metrominute reports that the allocations to each school have been published in an Extraordinary Provincial Gazette in terms of the Division of Revenue Act.
The gazette says the distribution formula is poverty based, in line with the poverty distribution table used in the Norms and Standards for School Funding.
It states further that given the levels of poverty and the impact of health conditions such as HIV/AIDS, it's anticipated that the need for the grant will continue for at least another 10 years.
